Mason waterfront Property
THIS SITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
Mason County, Washington is named for
Charles H. Mason, was the first Secretary
of State for Washington Territory, and
was acting Governor for two and a half
years while the territorial Governor,
Isaac Stevens, conducted railroad
surveys and concluded treaties with First
Nations tribes.
After settlement, the mainstay of our
economy was logging. Simpson Timber
became not just the main employer, but the
largest source of jobs in the state. As the
importance of forest products declined, the
county became an important recreation
destination and bedroom community to
Tacoma and Olympia. People who worked in
Tacoma and Olympia could commute on
freeways to homes in Mason County causing
the population to grow by almost 29 percent
within the past 10 years.
Mason is one of 39 counties in Washington
with an estimated population in 2004 of
53,637. It encompasses the southern
reaches of Hood Canal and many
bays and inlets of southern Puget Sound,
not to mention hundreds of fresh water
estuaries.
Beginning in 1994, a 102,000-square-foot
WalMart store and the Kneeland Plaza mall
in the county seat of Shelton provided a
magnet for business at the expense of
downtown. Leaders used the increased
sales tax revenues to create a local
improvement district (LID) to rejuvenate
downtown with new sidewalks, a repaved
Railroad Avenue, and period streetlights. Owners restored, renovated, and recycled the buildings into new uses while Kneeland Plaza employed more people than Simpson ever did.
This is a 30 mile peninsula between the snow-covered alpine peaks of Olympics National Park and and the protected waters of Puget Sound. We have the endless boating on one of America's most navigate-able waterways, green and lushly forested championship golf courses, crabbing and fishing, hiking, camping and are just a ferry ride to the professional sports and shopping in Seattle. Because of all our amenities, nonexistent income tax and the areas lowest property tax, this is prime retirement and vacation real estate with the greatest growth on the Sound.
We want to introduce you to Mason County and to give you a taste of all we love. Our intent is to create a website that features community events, seasonal pictures, a view of our waterfront properties - waterfront on both salt water and fresh water. It's truly spectacular and we suggest you not miss it. We will offer video experiences of our area's most exciting properties, Facebook and Twitter access, a lively blog PLUS our own Internet Radio Station - Mason County Radio. It's up and running right now (albeit limited bandwidth for the present). so listen in and let us know what you think.
Stay tuned because Mason County technology is coming soon and personally, I think it's going to be great fun.
